The Inky, Stitched, Layered Journal: A Play-filled Mixed Media Retreat
Medium: Mixed Media
Level: All Levels
Status:

The Inky, Stitched, Layered Journal: A Play-filled Mixed Media Retreat
An immersive, play-filled workshop experience creating texture-rich, colorful papers, beautiful hand-dyed fabrics, and intuitive stitched elements, all coming together in a layered art journal.
This mixed media, textiles, and art journaling experience will be full of creative demonstrations, with an emphasis on learning to let go of perfectionism, loosen up, and play.
Feel the cycle of inspiration that comes from working closely with fellow artists and a hands-on instructor.
Some of the topics we'll explore:
The benefits and power of limited color palettes
Embracing the spirit of play and curiosity
Dealing with perfectionism in your art practice
Working with intention early in the process
Creating texture-rich papers
Hand dyeing custom fabrics
Creating fiber and textile embellishments
Using textiles, papers, and canvas to create a journal cover
Layering elements to create abstract journal spreads
Sorting, filtering, and fine-tuning papers to create dimensional signatures
Journaling exercises to connect with your art practice and your "why"
You'll learn how to curate a custom art journal based on the pieces you made and love the most. Students can expect to leave with a finished journal, plus ideas and starting points for other projects.

I have always had an innate desire to be creative, work with my hands, and make beautiful creations. This has taken on many forms over the years. My roots are based in sewing and quilting but quickly stretched to anything I could get my hands on. Through years of exploration and returning to child-like play I have found my home in mixed media art journaling. I specialize in finding ways to bring more texture into artwork through textiles and intuitive stitching and combining techniques and elements that don’t “go together.” My passion is ignited when I focus on creative problem-solving through play and experimentation, which leads to innovative ideas. My purpose is fulfilled and my heart is happy when I can not only share my knowledge but also help others to break down inner thought barriers in order to create freely and trust their artistic intuition.
